Gone to the dogs!

I have written a couple of posts ("Birthday Wish - Dog Parks" and "Dogs and Condos - Never the twain shall meet") highlighting the challenges faced by dogs and their owners in Malaysia. But, the latest situation has really gone to the dogs (taken a turn for the worse, gone badly wrong).

We were horrified to read of a new ruling that Negeri Sembilan, (a state south of where we live) has recently implemented. Dog owners in Nilai must now get written permission from their neighbours to keep the animals in their homes. How unfair is that? Although we are thankful that our local municipal does not impose such ridiculous laws, we empathize with our fellow canines and their humans who are affected by it. Hey, we have no objections to rulings promoting responsible dog ownership, but this is a blatant discrimination against dogs! Since the ruling has come out, people have written in to the press protesting against this law. We don't know if this law will change, or if more municipals will adopt this. If this continues, we may actually be reverting to "It's a dog's life" of the 16th century definition! It's a sad day indeed.

That is a very strange law. It will lead to people paying off their neighbors, extorting permission letters, threatening their neighbors and choosing their home only after polling neighbors. But what if you have permission from all your neighbors to have a dog ... live happily for a few years, and then all of a sudden someone moves, you get a NEW neighbor, who objects to the pet? What a nightmare this law will be to enforce fairly.

I hope that ruling gets knocked down immediately! How stupid. If your neighbor doesn't like you or if you don't know your neighbor (we don't here) they could say anything.

It makes no sense.

That is a silly law. If they pass that why not permission from your neighbors to have a cat, have children or to rent the house out.

That is so not cool, what a worry for those living in that area....and how long before it spreads to other areas? What a totally stupid and pointless law. Feel sorry for those affected :o(
Is there a petition against it yet?
If you find out, let us know, we'll sign!

That's a terrible law, Kess! I hope that evfurryone in Malaysia protests against it and gets it stopped, or reversed, whatever needs to happen! And I agree with the Key West Collies - what's next, cats, children???

Omigosh...that's just crazy the things that get approved in Malaysia these days! It's an outrage I tells ya! We are reverting back to the Neanderthal age, in my opinion. *growls*

That is really sad! Poor dogs & the dog owners who really love & care for their dogs. We just hope other stats here in our country adopt this dumb ruling too or else!

That is awful. Is there anything you can do? Would they respond to a petition? We're keeping fingers and paws crossed here.

Thanks for signing my guest book.
